Foreign Minister Steinmeier on the attacks in Saudi Arabia
Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement today (5 July) on the suicide attacks in Saudi Arabia yesterday:
Zusatzinformationen
The attacks in Jeddah, in Qatif and in front of the mosque in Medina which contains the Prophet Mohammed’s grave, perpetrated during Ramadan, could hardly be more cynical. They demonstrate once again that these terrorists have no qualms, absolutely none, when it comes to spreading fear and wreaking havoc.
Our thoughts are with all those who are mourning loved ones at this time and with all Muslims around the world, many of whom will be celebrating the end of Ramadan today.
We can only hope that any young people who, for whatever reason, sympathise with IS or other terrorist organisations recognise that no religion can justify such horrific acts.
Only by standing shoulder to shoulder can we defeat terrorism and deprive it of support.
