Attack on a mosque in Kabul

A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (21 November) on the attack on a mosque in Kabul:

We were shocked to learn of the bombing of a mosque in Kabul mainly attended by Shia Muslims in which a large number of people have been killed or injured. We condemn this brutal attack in the strongest possible terms. The attacker apparently detonated the bomb while people were holding a religious ceremony.

The people in Afghanistan must not allow themselves to be torn apart, including by such terrible deeds. The perpetrators must not be allowed to divide the Afghan people and to pit denominations and ethnic groups against one another.

Germany remains resolute in its solidarity with Afghanistan.
