500th anniversary of the Reformation – Federal Foreign Office presents exhibition in Los Angeles
The Federal Foreign Office is marking the anniversary of the Reformation with a host of activities around the world, from Europe to Asia.
It is placing particular emphasis on events in the United States, by far the most important country outside Europe influenced by the Reformation.
Two major exhibitions supported by the Federal Foreign Office are devoted to the anniversary.
The art history exhibition “Renaissance and Reformation: German Art in the Age of Dürer and Cranach” opens in Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) today (16 November). This joint project of the National Museums in Berlin, the Dresden State Art Collections and the Bavarian State Painting Collections in Munich shows German 16th-century masterpieces and casts new light on the Reformation and its age.
In parallel, the exhibition project “Here I stand...” in New York, Atlanta and Minneapolis with the State Museum of Prehistory in Halle as the lead organiser, will display paintings and objects relating to Luther’s life and work and the Reformation.
Foreign Minister Steinmeier is patron of both exhibitions and opened the “Here I stand...” preview in New York’s Morgan Library on 23 September while in the city for the UN General Assembly.
