Federal Foreign Office condemns attack in East Jerusalem
A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (10 October) on yesterday's attack at a tram stop in East Jerusalem, in which five people were injured and two killed:
Zusatzinformationen
We condemn yesterday’s attack on innocent passers-by and police officers in East Jerusalem in the strongest possible terms. Our thoughts are with the friends and families of those who lost their lives and we wish the injured a speedy recovery.
There can be no justification for such cowardly attacks. We are deeply concerned by the renewed violence between Israelis and Palestinians. We call on the Palestinian Authority to swiftly step up its efforts to de-escalate the situation and to clearly condemn any attacks. At the same time, we expect restraint to be exercised when countermeasures are taken.
These are among the demands made in the most recent report by the Middle East Quartet. We call on both sides to take seriously the recommendations put forward in the report and to underscore their commitment to the two-state solution with concrete steps. Only a negotiated two-state solution can ensure enduring peace.
