Statement by the Federal Foreign Office on the allegations against the NGO World Vision

A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (5 August) on reports that the non-governmental organisation World Vision in Gaza had misappropriated funding to benefit Hamas:

The Federal Foreign Office takes the allegations very seriously.

We expect World Vision to help clarify this matter completely and with absolute transparency.

If these allegations prove to be true, this would show that Hamas does not even stop at deliberately putting the so urgently needed humanitarian support for the people in the Gaza Strip provided by the international community at risk.

The Federal Foreign Office will of course review completed projects in light of the allegations that have emerged in order to determine whether any irregularities occurred.

In the case of a current project aimed at providing psychosocial care to children in Gaza, no funding will be given until the allegations have been cleared up and it is certain that the funding is being used properly.”
