It is impossible to overstate the importance of German-Polish relations!

I was therefore delighted to join my Polish counterpart Witold Waszczykowski this morning in presenting the German‑Polish school textbook, a book which portrays our chequered and tragic shared history in a wonderful way and which is also intended to help develop a shared German‑Polish future.

Particularly in a Europe facing difficult decisions, the close friendship between our two countries is cause for profound gratitude. The amazing initiatives launched by many people, as well as the German-Polish Treaty on Good‑Neighbourliness concluded 25 years ago, placed our relations on a firm footing. They paved the way for reconciliation and close friendship. Today, too, we stand firmly on this foundation.
