Statement by Foreign Minister Steinmeier on the knife attacks against civilians in Israel

Statement by Foreign Minister Steinmeier on the knife attacks against civilians in Israel

Foreign Minister Steinmeier issued the following statement today (9 March) on the latest knife attacks against civilians in Israel:

Zusatzinformationen

We condemn the despicable attacks perpetrated against civilians in Tel Aviv-Jaffa and Petah Tikva yesterday and in Jerusalem today in the strongest possible terms. There can be no justification for such murders. Our thoughts and sympathy are with the victims and their families.

The violence between Israelis and Palestinians that broke out in mid-September and claims lives almost every day must be halted.

Both sides must help to bring about de-escalation. It is not enough to work on the symptoms of the conflict – the causes must be tackled. Re-starting serious endeavours towards a fair two-state solution is the only way to bring peace to Israelis and Palestinians.
